Tariq Al-Usaimi joined the Central Bank of Kuwait in 2018 as Head of Digital Strategy and planning he is responsible for driving the digital strategy for Central Bank of Kuwait, the Kuwaiti banking sector, and oversee the development of the Kuwaiti Fintech ecosystem.
He’s responsible for setting the Central Bank of Kuwait digital strategy by converting traditional analog supervision of the Kuwait banking sector to digital supervision technology (SupTech) using the potential of modern technologies, analytics and big data, and overseas Kuwaiti banking sector regulatory technology (RegTech) in the rapidly changing financial technology sectors like mobile applications, e-payment, Blockchain and Central Bank Digital Currency (CBDC) and related applications.
Prior to joining the Central Bank of Kuwait Tariq was the Chief Digital and Innovation Officer at National Bank of Kuwait (NBK) responsible for deploying NBK first Interactive Teller Machine (ITM), overhauling all consumers digital channels such as NBK Mobil App online banking and website. As for Innovation Tariq had led the team to launch the first NFC wearable credit card in the GCC, the first video banking the service in Kuwait, And Whatsapp Banking.
Prior to joining the National Bank of Kuwait, Tariq was a Chief Information Officer at Kuwait Credit Bank responsible for IT strategic planning, project management services, and web development practices. A most notable project that Tariq led in KCB was the 90 sec. loan approval system. The 90 sec. The system was the first loan approval system based on Artificial Intelligence (AI).
Tariq holds a BS degree from the Oregon State University School of Engineering.
