For the last 20 years I have overseen the growth of the RMS (Risk Management Solutions) business from a turnover of $20m to $300m. I started the European office in 1996. Initially focussing on the European and Asia markets, I took over global responsibility for sales, client service and marketing in 2007. RMS provides software models to the insurance industry to enable pricing of catastrophic perils such as hurricane, earthquake, flood, terrorism and most recently cyber. The models are used by 90% of the major insurance and reinsurance companies for risks that are too infrequent to be assessed by conventional actuarial methods. RMS tools are also a key part of effective portfolio management to ensure best use of capital.

Prior to RMS I opened up the market in Europe for catastrophe models for EQECAT, opening up a London office and introducing an entirely new method for assessing risk to a business that had seen little change over 300 years. Catastrophe models are one of the earliest examples of insurancetech and over 25 years have made a significant and positive disruption to how insurance companies underwrite.

In the last 5 years RMS has been building a new platform to bring together the models with SaaS based analytics that will create an open ecosystem for 3rd party models and data. This new new platform will enable real time analytics across an entire organisation. RMS is California based, but owned by the UK based DMGT Plc

I am now in the process of building a new venture to bring the next generation of analytics and data to the global insurance market and it’s clients.
