Product Manager at Venmo
Startupbootcamp FinTech New York Mentor
Matt Hamilton grew up in Montclair, NJ, and eventually found himself interested in science, engineering, and music. He studied materials science at Columbia University, but quickly became excited about the fast-moving startup scene in New York City. He founded a startup called Tourbie in his senior year, which was basically Airbnb for local tour guides, even interviewing at Y Combinator a couple times. It didn’t end up working out, so he started working part-time for Venmo, while building the Timeflies iPhone app for his friends.
At Venmo, he began working on the iOS app, helping rewrite it from scratch and launching in June 2012. After a year, he joined Venmo full-time, switched to backend, helping scale banking and payment systems. Later, he was the lead engineer in creating the Venmo Developer API. He is currently working as a Product Manager for Venmo. In his spare time, he likes brewing beer, advising startups, listening to music, and thinking about new product ideas.
