Lucien Burm is the co-founder and CEO of Kimengi, a Dutch recommendation technology company, that has just launched the groundbreaking service, nine connections. With more than 16 years experience, Lucien is a veteran in the still nascent online media space. He oversees Kimengi’s daily operations, investor relations, and new product launches. Prior to founding Kimengi with partner Christian Vogel in 2008, Lucien worked with many web, new media, and cross-media companies after founding an internet consulting business in the mid-1990s. While his work during this time covered a wide range of account management, sales, and marketing disciplines, it focused on managing business development and cultivating online strategies for his companies. Lucien has always been regarded among friends and associates as very well informed. It probably has something to do with him being a self-described “news junkie and social media schizophrenic.” Nine connections, being poised to revolutionize news discovery, has finally allowed him a way to channel this passion for timely and relevant news into a benefit for all. The seeds for nine connections were planted long ago. Lucien has previously been involved in such projects as personalized direct mailing recommendation services, early RSS feed programs, web-based cross domain chat channel development, and even early enterprise application integration. In his extra time, Lucien works as a mentor to other startup entrepreneurs through the Founder Institute, an international pre-seed incubator program trying to globalize Silicon Valley. He also plays guitar and pretends to know a few things about authentic Italian food and quality coffee.
