At the age of 24, David Lawson started a consultancy business which he ran for 9 years helping Australians get into the Japanese market. He ended up importing and building the first Australian house in Japan. He then joined the Australian Trade and Investment Commission and has been advising companies on international market entry based in Tokyo, in regional Japan, San Francisco and with true entrepreneurial flair, he opened Australia’s first diplomatic representation in Ulaanbaatar, Mongolia. He is currently the Senior Trade Commissioner and Consul-General for Australia based in Osaka. Before heading to San Francisco, David completed a Master’s degree specializing in the Commercialization of Science and Technology at the University of Adelaide – kind of like an MBA for start-ups. He has judged several international startup pitching competitions including several Startup Weekends in Mongolia. David has also been a Mentor at the Innovation Dojo in Sydney.
