From February 22nd to 24th, the innovation programs of Startupbootcamp in Mexico City held their second FinTech Hackathon, this time focused on financial health.
For 52 hours in a row, nearly 80 participants brought together their FinTech talent and enthusiasm to develop the best savings and financial management solution.
Entrepreneurs, techpreneurs and developers gathered at this “coding party” to put their ideas and talent into practice and to improve financial health in Mexico and Latin America.
Throughout the weekend, 16 FinTech solutions were developed, mostly focused on savings and personal financial management.
However, MoneyFight’s idea of fostering savings among children through a playful application, and making best use of the APIs available during the Hackathon made this startup the winner of the $ 50,000 MXN prize.
Attendees made the most of the resources and tools at their disposal, such as API’s and specialized workshops by VISA, Fiinlab, Banregio and HSBC Mexico: corporate partners of Startupbootcamp FinTech and Startupbootcamp Scale FinTech in Mexico City.
On the other hand, more than 40 experts on IT, marketing, FinTech law, finance and other disciplines, provided mentoring to the participants during the event. Some of them being key players of the technological entrepreneurship community in Mexico City, and others being part of the technical teams of three alumni startups of Startupbootcamp FinTech program: Flink, Prometeo and Seif.
The second day, Francisco Padilla, Co-Founder of Konfío (sponsor startup of the event), shared the story behind this platform specialized in credits for small and medium businesses. This Mexican FinTech recently raised 85 million USD in capital and debt: “a historical figure in the industry in the country.”
Announcing the next Hackathon edition in 2020, the Startupbootcamp FinTech Mexico City’s team invited attendees to follow their social media channels to stay tuned, and thanked the corporate partners that made this event possible: VISA, Fiinlab powered by Gentera, Banregio, HSBC Mexico, EY Mexico, IGNIA, Latinia and White & Case, and Konfío as startup sponsor.
