Amsterdam, 18 May 2018 – Yesterday, Startupbootcamp Commerce, the leading global startup accelerator focusing on Commerce and Retail Industry, hosted their Demo Day at Rabobank Headquarters in Utrecht. 11 international startups and 1 corporate venture showcased their innovative ideas in front of tech and retail influencers, mentors, corporate partners, and investors. Emma Sinclair MBE, successful entrepreneur, UNICEF ambassador, and youngest person to have made a company public (aged 29) joined as the keynote speaker.
The journey of the 12 teams started in February when they were selected out of more than 500 applicants. The companies went through an intense 3-months growth program in Amsterdam, starting off on 19th of February 2018.
New milestones were announced by a number of startups, including some partnerships with major corporates, such as Ahold, Rabobank, and Capgemini. Throughout the program, the teams were mentored by a network of leading executives and investors in the Netherlands and abroad and received support from Startupbootcamp Commerce program partners, such as Amazon, Cisco, Ahold Delhaize, PwC, America Today, Capgemini, and Rabobank.
Ernst Hoestra, Managing Director of the Commerce program commented: “We’re really proud of what these 12 companies have achieved in the past 3-months of the program. This year, we have been supporting more female and international founders who have already made an impact on the wider retail sector in the Netherlands. At the same time, we’re very excited to have had a Corporate venture in Residence, joining the program to develop together with startups. We see a lot of potential in these types of corporate startup collaborations.“
According to the founders, the Startupbootcamp network gave them a chance to collaborate with some of the corporate leaders in their industry and validate their business models and propositions:
“If you are working on something that you really care about, you don’t have to be pushed. The vision pulls you.” When you combine this passion that Steve Jobs speaks of with the mentoring of Startupbootcamp, you have a winning combination. Our product and their guidance have opened doors with multiple big market players including Nestle and Swarovski and we’re in the final stages of closing other key deals.” (MobieTrain, Belgium)
“Eye opening experience even for experienced founders. The program itself is confronting in a good way, gets entrepreneurs to think and defend, to pivot if need be, and then run!” (PointCheckout, UAE)
The startups will continue to be supported by the Startupbootcamp Global Alumni growth program, which connects over 600 startups worldwide.
