Every day, when we browse the Internet and use free apps online, we give away our personal information that is collected and used by many companies and organizations. We don’t always want to think about it, but the truth is that nothing we put online is private anymore. Is there something we can do about it?
Schluss from our FinTech & CyberSecurity accelerator in Amsterdam is here to give us back the control of our personal information on the Internet. This team wants to make sure that you, as a user of Schluss, are the only person that decides who gets the information about you online. We had a chat with Marie-Jose and Bob to find out more about the solution they provide and their experiences at Startupbootcamp so far.
Tell us more about the online privacy issue you are dealing with.
The way people look at privacy is changing rapidly over the years. They are becoming more and more aware of what is happening with their information on the Internet. Still, the majority of Internet users think they can do nothing about this privacy issue and that they have to accept the fact that their information is out in the open. With Schluss, we want to change that. We want to empower Internet users to take back the control of their information located online.
How exactly does Schluss work?
With Schluss, you have your own encrypted safe place on the Internet. You are the only one who has the key to this vault and the only one to decide to whom you give the insights and into which information.
Once you create your Schluss account via our website or an app, you can use your vault to upload documents, photos, contacts, and any other information. You also have a looking glass into the data of the companies that are connected to Schluss to see what information they have on you and what they are doing with it. This way you can regain, step-by-step, the control and ownership over your personal data again. You can transfer this data into your Schluss vault to keep it private.
What companies are you working with?
We are working with banks, insurance companies, and energy suppliers, and plan to involve commercial and medical organizations as well.
What are your accelerator experiences so far?
Startupbootcamp is helping us transform our big vision into an actual product and land on our feet. At the same time, we have been connected to a lot of interesting partners with whom we can work on pilots together.
One of the most surprising moments for us was a pitching event called Meet the VC. During this event, all the startups had to pitch their ideas to a panel of VCs who then gave their feedback to the teams. As we are setting up a cooperative, we did not think that this event would be useful for us. However, it turned out to be extremely worthwhile! Some of the VCs understood Schluss very well, what we are working on and how we want to achieve it. The feedback we received from them was great and it confirmed that we are moving in the right direction.
