Istanbul, 7 February 2017 – Startupbootcamp Istanbul, hosted by StartersHub — a tech investment fund set up in 2015 to turn Istanbul into one of the leading entrepreneurship centres of the world — successfully completed its third acceleration program. The Demo Day was held on January 19th at Soho House Istanbul, where 9 teams from the 2016 program along with 5 alumni from previous years presented their startups to more than 100 investors. After the pitches, each team had the opportunity to meet investors with a speed dating format in a dinner setting.
Startupbootcamp Istanbul is part of Startupbootcamp, the largest startup accelerator program in Europe. For the 2016 cohort, Startupbootcamp Istanbul selected 9 startups from 7 different countries in the following areas: smart fabrics, biotechnology, digital health, computer generated music, chatbots, smart home solutions, virtual reality, smart car parking and social polls.
Eventbaxx, Monument, Segmentify, Smart Moderation and Visionteractive from the previous alumni of Startupbootcamp Istanbul also attended the Demo Day and updated the audience about their progress since their graduation.
During the acceleration program, startups are trained on various topics such as business modeling, growth hacking, presentation skills; and are offered one-on-one mentoring along with business development support and seed investment of €15,000. Startups also benefit from the global network and services provided by strategic partners like Google, Amazon, Microsoft, Intel and Cisco. Startups that successfully complete the program have the opportunity of receiving follow on investment up to $250,000 from StartersHub.
Çiğdem Toraman, Managing Director of Startupbootcamp Istanbul said: “Since 2014, 80% of our alumni expanded into global markets. They received more than $8 million investment, $1.7 million of which has been invested by our fund, StartersHub. The number of applications expanded gradually each year. In 2016, having received 830 applications from 92 countries, Startupbootcamp Istanbul broke a record among 17 Startupbootcamp programs across the world. In addition, this year we ended our program with a brand new Demo Day format which resulted in the highest number of investment meetings for our startups.”
