FinTech & CyberSecurity 2017 Selection Days: Selecting The 100th Startup in Amsterdam

FinTech & CyberSecurity 2017 Selection Days: Selecting The 100th Startup in Amsterdam

25-Nov-2016 by Natalia Sakmarova

The 2017 Startupbootcamp Selection Days in Amsterdam is a very special event. Not only it is the first edition of our recently announced FinTech & CyberSecurity program but it also marks the 100th startup selected for the programs in Amsterdam! The two selection days truly were a celebration of entrepreneurship, empowerment, ecosystem and innovation.

Why did we choose to focus on the FinTech and CyberSecurity sectors? With every passing day, the number of cyber attacks is significantly increasing which makes a great impact on our way of living. Naturally, the financial sector is a big target for cyber terrorists. The need for consumers to feel 100% protected in their financial life encouraged Startupbootcamp to step up the game and add cybersecurity as a special segment to the FinTech accelerator.

To meet the most inspiring entrepreneurs from all over the world and help them with our feedback, we held 13 online and offline FastTrack events in 11 cities from all over the world. We received 275 applications from 50 countries and, after getting to know the applicants and thoroughly analyzing their teams and products, we invited 19 of them to our Selection Days in Amsterdam that took place between 22-23 of November.

In the morning of the 23 November, the beautiful venue at the ground floor of the startup hub B. Amsterdam quickly filled up with entrepreneurs and business experts who started to mingle. 80 mentors, 19 startups, the Startupbootcamp team and our partners – the crowd was united by their common passion for innovation.

You could feel the nervousness and the energy coming from the startups and the excitement from the mentors who were eager to look at the innovative products. Some of the teams had hardly slept because they had been working till late, improving their pitches based on the feedback from the first day.

After the energetic introduction by the program MD Michael Dooijes and the Fireside chat between Ruud Hendriks, co-founder of Startupbootcamp Global, and our investor Sebastian Kuntz, it was time for the 1-minute pitches. Startups gave all they had at this point – there was no turning back.

Most of the day was spent on mentor sessions during which our experts closely studied the important aspects of the teams and rated them. There were questions like, what traction do you expect by the end of the accelerator program? How do you plan to utilize your investments? How would you maintain your core team values while expanding your team?

After the sessions, the guests enjoyed a surprise act from the Boom Chicago comedian who put a smile on everyone’s faces despite the tiredness and the nervous anticipation of finding out who will make it to the selection.

The insightful day finished with the announcement of the 11 teams joining the 2017 class of the FinTech & CyberSecurity program! We are proud to present them to you:

What’s next?
