Dutch startup STaR Engines raises €2 million ($2.29 million)
Eindhoven, the Netherlands, February 6, 2015 – STaR Engines has just announced during Startupbootcamp HighTechXL Demo Day in Eindhoven that it has raised an investment of 2 million euros (2.29 million dollar) from the Dutch angel investor Frans van Gils.
The startup was founded by Pim Bekking to apply the now patented STaR Technology to all products which are based on combustion engines. The first product is the STaR Portable Charging System, JERR.E, a compact battery charger for electric vehicles, one can easily carry along like a jerry can. The battery charges while traveling, and thus solves the problem of range anxiety – currently the greatest disadvantage of EVs.
“Engine complexity has been boggling my mind from the moment I received my very first Solex motor, one of these once attached to bicycles. Until 2009, when I finally got the time to work on an idea of a simple yet ultra-powerful engine”, Pim Bekking comments.
“This technology is the future. What Pim has invented is so beautiful because of its simplicity. I can assure you, no one else has ever thought about such a creation. Its applicability is limitless, from cars to airplanes and space shuttles”, Frans van Gils shared with Startupbootcamp HighTechXL team.
STaR Engines is a participant in the second edition of Startupbootcamp HighTechXL, Europe’s leading accelerator for high-tech startups, located on the High Tech Campus Eindhoven. With the help of mentors (entrepreneurs, professors and other experts) the best high-tech startups from around the world are rapidly prepared for the launch of their products. Today on the closing event Demo Day, all eleven participating startups presented their high-tech inventions to the public, including investors from China, the United States and Europe.
‘We are extremely happy and proud that we were able to close this deal before Demo Day,’ says Pim Bekking, founder of STaR Engines. ‘We are now working hard to climb the next mountain: build a demonstration model and building our organization.’
‘STaR Engines is a perfect example of disruptive technology that we want to elevate,’ says co-founder of Startupbootcamp HighTechXL Guus Frericks. ‘This team already securing such a substantial investment before Demo Day has crowned this week, in which we presented ourselves to His Majesty King Willem-Alexander, Dutch Minister of Economic Affairs Henk Kamp, special envoy for startups Neelie Kroes and today investors from all over the world.’
