After 3 intense months of work, Startupbootcamp HighTechXL’s latest group of 10 startups are just days away from pitching to 900 investors from around the world at their Demo Day. Although the days leading up to a Startupbootcamp Demo Day usually involve last minute preparations and few final late nights, for three lucky teams this year’s pitch practice turned into a royal affair…

Yesterday at the Startupbootcamp HighTechXL offices in Eindhoven, Manus Machina, UniCare, and ULU were invited to pitch to none other than the King of the Netherlands – His Majesty King Willem-Alexander. Accompanied by the Minister of Economic Affairs, Henk Kamp, King Willem-Alexander spent time listening to each of the 3 teams pitch, offering a few valuable pointers along the way.

A working lunch followed the pitches to discuss the Netherland’s recent initiative to become a global hotspot for startups. Discussion topics included additional access to funding, developing entrepreneurial skills, a newly passed startup visa, and the Startup Delta initiative led by Neelie Kroes.

When we asked His Majesty about his visit, he replied “I asked the Economic Minister to show me something he is proud of, and he took me here.”
In just our second Startupbootcamp HighTechXL class in Eindhoven, it’s unbelievable how far we’ve come – receiving King Willem-Alexander is the best icing on the cake we could have asked for!?
