Startupbootcamp HighTechXL Back in the spotlight

03-Jun-2014 by GuusFrericks

We are back in the spotlight with Startupbootcamp HighTechXL. In October last year we made national headlines by launching the world’s first high-tech business accelerator. 10 teams went through the program, earning their chance to present their disruptive technology in-front of over 750 investors from home and abroad.

With the 2014/2015 program opened on May 19, the global search for the world’s best young tech companies starts again.
We’re seeing the emergence of business accelerators with a clear focus. From the outset, Startupbootcamp HighTechXL has profiled as the leading hardware accelerator. That means we’re looking for teams that are building a piece of hardware, or some kind of hardware-software combination. In the last 12 months of scouting we have discovered some incredibly talented hardware startups. But in the increasingly competitive world we live in, you need more than brilliant technology to build a successful business. You need to develop a business model and validate it with real customers. You have to work out how to scale production of your prototype in clever ways.

In the course of building Startupbootcamp HighTechXL we tapped into an ecosystem that has done us proud. We are amazed by the diversity of the expertise we’ve discovered at High Tech Campus Eindhoven, home to more than 125 companies located in what is widely regarded as the smartest square kilometre in the world. We have a lot to be thankful for. But, at the same time, it’s a reputation that takes lots of time and effort to live up.

The key to our success has been the interaction between the high-tech startups and the mentors who take an active part in the program. Once mentors recognize the talent in the startups, they open up their private networks, which extend from around the corner to around the world. And because mentors trust those who have been selected for the program, they don’t just talk – they take positive action fast. I believe that we have proven in year one that we can open any door to any network and that a concentrated collaborative efforts gives everyone a distinct “unfair advantage” over the competition.

As of May 19, we’re officially open for applications for our 2014/2015 program which starts in November 2014. But there’s a reason why we’re encouraging interested teams to apply immediately. We’ve seen several cases where teams benefited from an early interaction with our selection team. May be some crucial information is missing. Or the applicants have questions about what’s expected from them – and what they can expect from the program. Our advice is to fill in the form so you pop up on our radar. After scanning over 5000 companies, we’re learning how to spot the teams that will disrupt the 8 high-tech sectors we’ve focused on. Curious? is the only address you need.
