Startupbootcamp Berlin is all about novelty this year. With the announcement of a new Smart Transportation & Energy vertical, and the launch of a sister-program in San Francisco next year, we are breaking ground at unparalleled speeds.
And along for the ride are some incredible mentors that have joined us in this new phase of Startupbootcamp Berlin. We are lucky to have some world-class mentors that are not only backed by experience and charisma, but are damn good at what they do. Clemens Raemy, Co-Founder & CEO at SaferTaxi
After graduating from Yale University and receiving his MBA from Harvard Business School, Clemens spent 6 months traveling in Latin America, where he came up with the idea of his current taxi hailing app, SaferTaxi. The company has raised 5M USD in Venture funding from local and US VC funds, and has offices in Argentina, Brazil, Chile, and Uruguay. Clemens, a Swiss citizen, also mentors startups at Startup Chile and loves to row, sail, SCUBA dive, play tennis, and read books in his spare time.
Frank Aldorf, Chief Brand Officer at Specialized Bicycles
Frank Aldorf is Chief Brand Officer at Specialized Bicycles, a high-end & experience-driven consumer brand with global reach through a network of over 3,000 independent retailers worldwide. Previously Frank was a creative brand strategist and global executive creative director for Reebok. In 2010 Aldorf cofounded creative business consultancy, Hubble Innovations. He started his career working as a designer and creative director for numerous international clients and Fortune 500 companies including MercedesBenz, Smart Cars, Adobe and HP.
Louis Chatriot, Head of Development at Local Motion
Louis is the head of European operations for Local Motion, a San Francisco-based startup that develops one of the world’s most advanced enterprise vehicle fleet sharing and management solutions. Prior to working at Local Motion, Louis cofounded and was the CTO of Tldr.io, and before then was a consultant at Bain & Company. He spends his free time building stuff, skiing, playing squash and mentoring startups and aspiring entrepreneurs, especially at his former university.
Philipp Kandal, General Manager EU at Telenav / skobblerPhilipp Kandal is General Manager EU of Telenav / skobbler. Before that he was co-founder and CTO of skobbler, which was successfully sold to Telenav in 2014. Skobbler is one of the few profitable consumer app companies and has won various prices such as the Navteq LBS challenge 2009 as the most innovative European LBS start-up and currently has over 4 million users. Philipp is in charge of the Romanian development team and the German product team.
Joseph Kopser, CEO & Co-Founder at RideScout
Joseph Kopser is the CEO and co-founder of RideScout, an Austin startup working to revolutionize how people view ground transportation, and Co-Chairman of the Defense Energy Summit. Previously, Joseph served for 20 years in the U.S. Army, including an assignment in the Pentagon as a Special Assistant to the Army Chief of Staff. Joseph graduated from West Point as an Aerospace Engineer in 1993 and received a Masters in Government Policy from the Harvard Kennedy School. In November 2013, the White House recognized Joseph as a Champion of Change for his work as a Veteran in Clean Energy.
Uli Huener, Head of Innovation Management at EnBW
Uli Huener is the Head of Innovation at EnBW and previously served as the CEO of Yello Strom GmbH, a German electricity provider supplier based in Cologne. Uli has held various senior management positions with firms in the IT and telecommunications sector in Germany as well as in the US, overall holding over 25 years of international experience in various management positions in the IT and telecommunications industry – from start-ups to large corporations.Uli Huener studied at the Universities of Bielefeld and Hamburg mathematics and business administration and obtained at the California Institute of Technology Master of Science in Applied Mathematics.
Bernd Heinrichs, Managing Director Internet of Everything (IOE) EMEAR at Cisco
Bernd is in charge of Internet of Everything Sales and Innovation in EMEAR at Cisco. He currently is building up a Center of Innovation (CoI) in Berlin, which focuses on Manufacturing and Transportation as key verticals. The idea behind a CoI is to accelerate innovation in cooperation with a strong external ECO System. Bernd has 20 years of professional experience in the high tech communications market. After managing several engineering projects for Ericsson, he moved to Cisco, where he was active in different Sales, Technology, Marketing, M&A and Investment Leadership roles.
Jan Michael Hess, CEO at Ecosummit
Jan is Founder and CEO of Ecosummit and the Berlin-based consulting firm Mobile Economy. Since 2010, Jan produced 6 international cleantech conferences in Berlin, London and Düsseldorf. He advises startups on fundraising, strategy, marketing and sales and is also Editor-in-chief of the Ecosummit Blog and Ecosummit TV. Prviously, Jan worked for Pixelpark, Icon Medialab and Ciao as Strategic Planner, Project Manager and Head of Marketing and Sales. Jan holds a business degree from the University of Mannheim, lives in Berlin with his wife Simone and their son Mateo and is a big fan of Japan and Jazz.
Chris Varley, External Science & Technology at Goodyear
A respected expert in technology commercialization and innovation, Chris has led new business creation efforts for several major corporations including AT&T, CompuServe, Prentice-Hall, and The Walt Disney Company. In his current position as Global Program Manager for Goodyear’s External Science and Technology Programs, Chris focuses on building partnerships and alliances that enhance Goodyear’s Open Innovation approach to developing new products and services. Previously, Chris was New Market Development Vice President for AT&T Labs. A two term Generation Foundation Fellow for Sustainable Development and former Vice President of NorTech, the Northeast Ohio Technology Coalition, Chris played a critical role in the early development of the clean energy movement in Northeast Ohio.
Klaus Tritschler, VP Design at ICON Aircraft
Klaus Tritschler has over 18 years of experience in premium transportation design, ranging from aircraft and yachts to powersports. At ICON, Klaus is responsible for interior and exterior design as well as user experience and consumer touch points. Prior to ICON, he was an integral part of the creative leadership at BMW Group DesignworksUSA and worked at BMW Motorrad in Munich, designing the award winning F800S and ST. Klaus received his BA in Industrial Design from the University of Wuppertal in Germany in 1993 and began his design career at Johnson Controls’ Automotive Division before moving to California in 1994.
