We had some more fun sessions at SBC Amsterdam office recently. After the Lean Start Up Machine session on Tuesday (May 1st) we had another guest on Thursday (May 3rd): the guys from Buro Koos paid us a visit.
Koos, the strategic designer helps companies with innovation practices by helping to create smarter products and to strengthen the brand. Jules Prick and Robbert-Jan van Oeveren go for the holistic approach – they start with research and go all the way through advising the right strategy, to developing the right concepts for companies.
At our office, Robbert-Jan van Oeveren gave a presenation about the “value of design”. He stressed that the teams need to think about how they are going to desing the entire customer journey, since “design” is not just aesthetics but it also funtions as a verb: it is all about how products and sevices work. Brand touchpoints between the customer and the company should be designed in a way as to add value to both parties involved. In order to illustrate this premise Robert-Jan showed the teams a case study for a startup client. He showed how an entirely new concept can be built around the same offering: the product or service can differ significantly depending on which target segment is the focus at a given time. It’s all about strategic design.
The presentation ended with a Q&A session, followed by individual talks with the sturtup teams. Robert-Jan enouraged participants to make use of some of the free tools which are available via Buro Koos’ blog. Feel free to use them too!
