Meet the Startupbootcamp Berlin Teams: Weavly

05-Dec-2012 by Startupbootcamp

This is the fourth post of our blog series called “Meet the Teams”. Learn more about what motivates them, what they have learned during their time at SBC and whether they will stay in Berlin or not. Today we would like to introduce you to Christian, Jürgen, and Oliver from Weavly, who joined Startupbootcamp Berlin from Austria to take their browser based video editor to the next level.

About Weavly

Meet Oliver, Christian, and Jürgen, the dynamic creators behind Weavly. The trio actually began as fierce competitors in Austria’s online news industry, before teaming up to launch Weavly, a browser based video editor. In the beginning, Christian worked for the biggest Austrian online news magazine in eastern part of the country, and Oliver worked for the second biggest in the western part. One day, while studying interactive video design, Oliver became frustrated with the difficulty of utilizing web content for his own creative ends and got the crazy idea to create a video editor that would allow users to grab any youtube video or sound clips from the web instantaneously. Flush with excitement from the potential of Weavly, Oliver scoured through most of Austria to find someone who could help him. When he stumbled upon Christian in the competition, they ceased working against each other and started collaborating. Oliver brought his technical director from the magazine, Jürgen, along with him, and the three began to create Weavly. Yet the startup scene in Austria left much to be desired, so the team headed off to Berlin to realize their dream. Three months and countless sleepless nights later, the team has finished the first version of their product, and are now ready for people to use Weavly to create their own videos, as well as investors to help fund their rapid growth.

Oliver

1. What is the biggest lesson you’ve learned at SBC so far?

Get to know the core of your product, learn to understand all aspects of it and focus on it as much as possible. Ignore the rest till users ask for it.

2. What was your personal motivation to start your own company?

I’m in love with our product and the ideas it’s based on. Funding a company is one of the best ways of shaping your own life and the stuff surrounding you the way you want it. And you learn a great deal while doing so. The only thing I regret is that I didn’t do it any earlier.

3. Will you stay in Berlin after SBC?

Part of our team, including me, will stay in Berlin for a longer period of time. How long is heavily linked to the question how we’re going to finance Weavly. But I wouldn’t mind if it’s more than just a couple of months, the town and it’s community are awesome.

1. What is the biggest lesson you’ve learned at SBC so far?

Try and fail until you finally figure out how to succeed is often a faster and better way to success than over planning things.

2. What was your personal motivation to start your own company?

I‘ve wasted far too much time in my life with fools that told me what can‘t be done and what‘s never going to work without having a single argument for their points, except their age. I‘m here to prove they are all wrong.

3. Will you stay in Berlin after SBC?

I‘ll be at the place that‘s best for Weavly. In the next months, that will be Berlin.
