Startupbootcamp Dublin 2012 – Investor Demo Day, May 16th, 2012
On Wednesday, May 16th, Startupbootcamp Dublin Investor Demo Day took place in SBD HQ at The Factory, a converted warehouse in Dublin’s thriving tech hub on Barrow Street. The explosive event, visited by An Taoiseach Mr Enda Kenny T.D. witnessed ten of the hottest Irish and International start-ups pitch their next generation technology to a packed to capacity venue to secure funding.

Managing Director of Startupbootcamp Dublin, Eoghan Jennings kicked off the event with a strong warning to the audience. “Watch out. This generation of entrepreneurs is coming to eat your lunch, and they haven’t had one in a couple of days. They have spent the better part of four months in a freezing cold warehouse . . . they’re out to disrupt the markets they’re entering.”
Investors and Mentors
Some of the world’s key angel investors including Silicon Valley Bank, Accel & Highland Capital, business mentors and start-up communities attended. Guests watched each team present their innovative business concept in a 6-minute format. Post pitches an International Investor Panel Country vs. Country – took to the stage to pitch “Where best to develop a start-up in today’s market” World-Cup’ style. The panel including; Sean O’Sullivan, SOS Ventures CHINA; Felipe Matos, Startup Farm BRAZIL; Gerald Brady, SVB US; Baybars Altunas, EBAN Turkey, Patrick de Zeeuw, Startupbootcamp Amsterdam and Martin Kelly IBM Ireland.

Teams and Pitches
Teams from Israel, US, Poland, Lithuania, China, Brazil, Romania and Ireland were selected from over 150 Irish and International applications. Themes for the inaugural accelerator programme included visualising & aggregating data; consumerizing workplace IT and digitizing transport – ensuring developing technology is relevant for practical everyday usage. During this day, twitter was alive and well, with event hashtag #SBCDublin, trending in the Dublin area during the time of the pitches. MavenHut, People’s Choice Startup Award Winner also came out with all the glory as the final pitch team! See pictures of all teams during the pitch below.
The End of the Beginning
Investor Demo Day marks the end of the beginning for the startups at Startupbootcamp Dublin. Some will stay in Dublin, some will choose to return back to their home countries. But one thing is for sure, there are now ten new teams of startups ready to change the world now equipped with the networks, resources and experience to do so – and Startupbootcamp always there to have their backs.
